On Monday the 16th of June the Call of Duty 4 team returned from Singapore after their tour of duty in the Sling Arena. Here they took part in SlingHD’s first large scale eSports production and are set to star on HDTV in the coming weeks. Back at Team Immunity Headquarters, there has been little time to adjust their LAN skills into the Online format and to prepare for the finals of the CyberGamer Invitational league.
Competing in the first Semi-final of the competition less than 3 days since touching down back home the team were up against Sequential Gaming. The ruleset for the competition requires each team to choose a map followed by a third deciding match if required. The map choice of Raven’s by SQL was certainly a curve ball for the team. Despite a slow start the team settled down and demonstrated the skill and tactics which have delivered them their current undefeated record this season. The team was pushed hard however held firm to secure the first map 13 rounds to 10. The second map Immunity’s choice was District. The stage was set and the momentum was carried over into the second match where SQL simply couldn’t recover. The map finished with the scoreboard showing Immunity victorious 13 rounds to 6. This secured Team Immunity’s place in the Grand Final next week.
With just one weekend before the Tuesday nights Grand Final, we caught up with Justin 'juzzk1d' Bausch and Tristain 'tEEKK' Pope about their thoughts and expectations coming into the Grand Final.
The Semi-Final was expected to be a good match, did it live up to your expectations?
juzzk1d - I knew SQL were going to come out firing, being a single elimination match to progress into the Grand Final. The map they chose, Ravens, caught us off guard and it certainly allowed them the opportunity to take a win. After a slow start we gained momentum however they never gave up.
You now find yourselves up against Qlimax Crew in the Grand Final. How do you feel they have played this season?
juzzk1d – Our previous CG match against them took it into double overtime. Judging by their results I feel Qlimax are the main team we are looking out for. On and off the battlegrounds there is certainly an air of rivalry and we are raring to go on Tuesday night.
What are the chances of the Grand Final going into a third and deciding map?
tEEKK – There is a good chance it will go to three maps however we are confident we can take it in two close maps.
juzzk1d – To date every online match that has been best of three maps we have taken it out in two maps. I’m confident that we can continue this trend once more take two maps in the upcoming Grand Final – I’m certainly looking forward to the match.
Which Qlimax player do you expect to cause you the most trouble during the Grand Final?
tEEKK – Usually I would say Buczy, but with the EU ruleset being implemented and with arguably less skilled weapons, I would probably say Wazza. He picks up some pretty unique frags with the AK74.
juzzk1d –XTC will always be a sharp fragger that we will be wary of. However players like Theone with an AK74 lurking somewhere on the map has the potential to cause the most damage.
What are your expectations for the Grand Final? Go through the line-up and describe each players performance in three words or less.
tEEKK:- obez - best scoper, BeasT - aussie rob-wiz, juzzk1d - kamikaze, Jor - Old man reactions.
juzzk1d:- obez - scoper gold, BeasT - rob-wiz of Australia, Jor - 1v1 klutch king, tEEKK - Mr consistant.
The Grand Final will be played at 8pm on Tuesday 1st of July. Live commentary is being provided by Gamestah Radio be sure to tune in - www.gamestah.com
